IT outsourcing, also known as managed services, is a term used to describe the use of a third party organisation to provide Information Technology (IT) services, and may cover the provision of specific services, such as IT-based disaster recovery systems and procedures, through to the management of an organisation’s entire IT network.

IT Outsourcing enables organisations to focus on core business objectives, without having to worry about the additional challenges of information technology provision. IT Outsourcing also offers the opportunity to start bold new ventures and to reshape organisations into virtual corporations made up of collaborative networks. These ventures add greater complexity to the mix, bringing with them the need to carefully manage third-party performance levels.
