Flexible working arrangements are increasingly offered by organisations in order to remain competitive through the recruitment and retention of top performing employees. These arrangements aim to be a win/win situation for the organisation, by way of increased productivity and loyalty, and for the employee through work/life benefits. Telecommuting in particular offers considerable cost savings in regard to accommodation and parking requirements, and travel time saved by employees can be turned into productive work, reduced stress levels, and lifestyle benefits.

A Call Centre is a department within a company, or a third-party organisation, which manages telephone sales and/or services. The term "Contact Centre" may also be used, and this relates to the primary purpose of the centre i.e. receiving incoming calls from customers that desire to make contact with the organisation. The name "Contact Centre" may also reflect the multiple channels through which customers can communicate and make contact with the centre e.g. email, fax, telephone, web sites.
